The SOMCM is a simplified manual created by Transport Canada specifically for organizations operating three or fewer aircraft, none of which are turbine powered or have a Maximum Takeoff Weight (MTOW) greater than 5700 kg. While this manual fully meets the requirements of the CARs, it's important to understand its limitations.
Important Note: The SOMCM does not allow for changes to the content, which makes expanding your operation quite difficult. Many operators find it too restrictive, often resulting in multiple findings during the initial Transport Canada audit. However, for very simple operations where limited growth is expected, it can be a good fit.
The pre-approved SOMCM that meets Transport Canada requirements for small operators. This manual is typically approved much quicker than custom MCMs, making it ideal for operators who need to get started quickly.
This is where the real value lies. While the SOMCM itself is pre-approved, Transport Canada will typically require you to have supporting documents and forms before they will approve your SOMCM. The SOMCM Support Manual contains all the documents and forms required by the regulations (CARs) to support the functions of the SOMCM, giving you everything you need to remain compliant.
The Support Manual includes:
Many operations outgrow an SOMCM very quickly. If you anticipate growth or need more flexibility, we have great news: If you purchase one of our AOC/FTU Custom Start-Up Packages within one year of purchasing the SOMCM package, you will receive full credit for the SOMCM package cost. This means you're not paying twice—the SOMCM package essentially becomes a stepping stone to a custom solution.
This start-up package will be delivered within two days of receiving payment. The SOMCM approval process is typically much faster than custom packages, allowing you to get started quickly.
We guarantee that all manuals submitted to Transport Canada will be approved. Any changes requested by Transport Canada for manual approval will be included at no charge.
